Behavior management is often a part of treatment used with children. At Young Smiles, we use distraction and Tell, Show, Do the most. Distraction starts with using televisions on the ceiling above the dental chairs. We will use conversation, movement and many other techniques to distract your child during their appointments.
Tell, Show, Do is just what it sounds. We tell them what we are going to do, we show them what we are going to do and then we do it. We often use euphemisms or simple ways to explain complex issues that help children understand better what is going to happen. We often focus more on what something is supposed to feel like.
Other types of behavior management may be used depending on the temperament of your child or after a discussion with your dentist. If standard behavior management techniques do not work Dr. Rau or Dr. Nguyen may recommend using a sedation or general anesthesia.
